You have to deliver a church sermon in the morning, what to do? So how are you going to get ideas? Where do you find the sermon outlines? Go through a ton of trash on the internet? Make a trip to the library? However there is a easy way which you can try. Close your eyes and open up the bible, to whatever age that it opens up to. See if this resonates with you, if not try again. You can repeat this many times until you find something you are comfortable with. Then you can use the "who what when where why" approach. Suppose you are going to talk about the last supper. Who were present at the last supper? What was the last supper about? When did it happen? Where did it happen? And why did Jesus say the things he said? Ideas and topics would come to your mind readily.
Then write a sermon outline, pace your points so that the sermon is delivered in about 30 minutes. Some preachers finish in about 15 minutes, but that is not enough time for the message to sink in. Some go on for about 45 minutes or more, by that time the congregation would be somewhere in outer space. Half an hour is about the golden mean.
You might want to begin your sermon with an anecdote, or a joke (as Joel Osteen does). This puts the audience in a good mood and more receptive to your message. Your message should not be a theological lecture - which would be the most effective sleep aid there is. This actually is the failing of most sermons. Structuring the sermon in an academic fashion is not the way to go. Always have the human element in your messages. Speaking from personal experience would also be a good idea.
Since we are in the digital age, PowerPoint presentations are a great way to get your point across. Nothing alerts an audience more than if there is something to see. If you are not familiar with PowerPoint there is plenty of help online. The object is education, and your church members will benefit from your efforts.
Whatever you do, just relax and let God guide you. Good luck!
