With nearly 20 years of gift buying experience I have come across hundreds of customers looking to purchase a 40th Birthday Presents. A 40th birthday is tricky to buy as it's so important to many adults. Age 40 is seen as a milestone from young adulthood.
However try not to let the gravitas of the birthday hold you back from buying the perfect present. Like all presents its worth having a think about what that person would really treasure. If the person is keen on a specific sports, hobby or food then it would be worth looking into those areas for ideas. Its often nice if the present could have meaning about your relationship, such as a photograph from when you first met or a bottle of the first drink you ever drank together.
The perfect present is unique but also highly personal, so this is were personalisation comes into play. Any present can be made special via personalisation. You could purchase any normal picture frame, but imagine how special it would be if had a montage of moment from your relationship?
A bottle of alcohol could be a bit boring, but if you added a custom message to the label and a glass/stein with a photo embedded this is a present to be remembered!
Sometimes a 40th birthday gift could be for someone who you don't particularly know very well such as a work colleague. This is not an excuse for giving a bad present, you just need a different strategy. In situations like this, it makes sense to go with classical presents such as chocolates and flowers (women) and cuff-links and ties (men.)
Like with any new idea generation it's best to start with a brain-storm of ideas then break it down to one or two. Once you have found one or two present ideas this makes it easier to quickly finish the shopping for the gifts. The reason I say that you should have two ideas is that often many popular present can sell out so you have always got a solid plan b.
