Virtual Savvy Presenter: Finding Your Sweet Spot - Business - Presentation

Are your virtual presentations matching your audience? Here's a 12-point checklist that makes virtual presenting a breeze.

If you are marketing and selling to a remote audience, your comfort, confidence and use of technology makes a world of difference.

I talk with clients from all different industries, across the United States and around the world. I still find many senior level leaders reluctant to embrace all the technology options available to them.

Truly, it doesn't make a lot of sense. If you have experience that your organization and new hires could benefit from, why wouldn't you find every possible way to share it?

At the same time, there are a lot of new hires, relatively new employees who are extremely tech savvy. They embrace virtual solutions often to the elimination of non-technical ones.

The best solution? Find that special sweet spot in the middle. Use this 12-point checklist to determine how to best use remote technology to get your message across. This checklist is extremely popular in my presentation skills trainings.

1. Match. Is your technology matching audience familiarity?A great practice is to start with what your audience is familiar using. Then, introduce the new medium. With a calm attitude and a steady hand, help them experience the value of a new way of communicating.

2. Ease. Is your technology easy to use? Rather than relying on a 'Sure, I use it all the time' response, test out ease with someone who has never used it before.

3. Orient. Are you providing extra information for first-time users? If you're already using your virtual solution, you may have forgotten how confusing and overwhelming this can be on the first time. Take a step backwards to recall what helps a first-time user.

4. At-A Glance. Is your information for first-time users easy to understand at a glance?A picture or infographic helps people orient instantly. Provide this to your audience in advance of your virtual presentation.

5. Model. Are you providing introductions to each tool before you use them?If your audience is unfamiliar with emoticons, chat or another feature, introduce these before you ask them to participate. Model how the tool works so everyone is starting on equal footing.

6. Mix. Are you using a blend of virtual tools in one event? Some presenters lean towards one tool exclusively. This creates a boring and monotone event. Are you guilty of this?

7. Expand. Are you relying on certain tools because these are the ones you are most familiar with? Why are you relying on certain tools? Explore your reasons and expand your usage.

8. Visual. Are you expanding your visual vocabulary to improve your slides?Do your slides look like they survived from the '80's? If you're not sureask a presentation coach to review your slides. The more current, fresh and visual your slides, the faster your audience will relate to your message.

9. Balance. Are you relying on technical features to explain a technical solution? If you're selling complex software or highly technical solutionslook for a balance. Emphasis low-tech explanations to make the topic more approachable.

10. Discuss. Are you ready to 'ditch the deck' in favor of on the spot discussion? You are not chained to your slides. Jump on the opportunity to have a conversation that forwards true connection with virtual participants.

11. Show. Are you prepared to sketch a simple solution at the whiteboard--whether dry erase, or virtual?Visuals are even more important in remote meetings. Sketching on the spot unlocks tremendous creativity and opens doors for collaborating. Hint: get help with whiteboard presenting so you can seize this opportunity.

12. Engage. Are you engaging your virtual audience with questions, interaction and real time conversation?Plan, prepare and deliver highly interactive virtual sessions. Think of virtual collaborations as opportunities to discuss, problem-solve and trouble shoot together.

If your organization has invested in new technologybut not in interactive virtual skills, you have a huge opportunity. Take this time to get targeted presentation skills training so you and your global partners communicate effectively in our virtual world.

Keyed Cars, Christmas Scars, and Chi-town Seminars... - Self Help

I walked outside to my car and saw a disturbing sight. Someone had keyed the entire passenger side. It had to get fixed. Fortunately, I was covered.

Of course they always hit the best looking side. And they didn't key my hood, which needed the most touch-up. Some of you are saying, "Hey stupid. Why don't you claim the hood as part of the damage? Your insurance wouldn't know the difference."

Simple. That would be a lie...

It was just prior to Christmas when I ordered a $500 correspondence course with an expiring $50 coupon for a total of $450. It arrived, but on the final week of the year, it goes on sale for $250. I could have returned the course, reordered it under the sale price, and saved $200--but I didn't.

Was it because I was doing well and didn't face money challenges? NO. Just the opposite.

You're thinking I must really be a sap. I got no money coming in on one end, and I'm throwing it away on the other. Just how gullible is your editor?

Hey I don't like overpaying for anything, but if something was worth the price, then I'll make an effort to get it. And in this case, the course was worth more than $500. The information alone was worth more than five thousand dollars.

(It's funny, but when people buy a five thousand dollar item--they treat it like a five thousand dollar item. If they get the exact item for free, it usually collects dust.)

Which leads to the volatile topic of personal integrity...

Do you lie on your income taxes? Do you plagiarize? Do you cheat on your partner? Do you break your word? Do you falsify information? And even more acceptable--do you try to get even?

I'm sure none of you are of this caliber, but let's assume the rest of the world made these common practices. They believe it's no big deal to tell a lie because it's really harmless and besides, everyone gets away with it. Or maybe they've been burned by someone who got away with it, so why not join them and do the same to others?

For one thing--this eviscerates the Golden Rule of doing unto others, as you'd have them do unto you:

You don't want to be a victim of cheating, so why would you become a participant? You don't want to be taken advantage of, so why join some plot to abuse your talents? You want to reap the good, so why sow to the bad?

And for another thing--what goes around, comes around:

Some call it karma. Others call it sin. Whatever it's called in your circle--it seems to haunt you later in life. It bites you in the ass and leaves painful marks.

If you want to be treated right, you should treat others right first. If you gossip about others, others will gossip about you. If you profit from the expense of others, others are forming a line to take a shot at you.

But you reason, "You don't understand. You haven't been through what I've been through. I've kept my word - my end of the deal - and I got burned. I've got to teach them a lesson!"

Hey, save it. You'll waste too much time trying to collect what you're due. It's usually more profitable to forgive and move on. You won't become its slave and you'll sleep better at night.

Here's what I mean...

My mentor's books are illegally published in different languages. When he appeared in one of those countries for a keynote, they treated him like a famous rock star. He got the royal treatment and spin-off deals because he didn't waste time collecting what he was owed. He leveraged his loss of income to make even more money without lifting a finger.

That's the same power we've been granted. We have the power to choose our actions. Do we pursue our wrongdoers, or forgive them?

Tough choices we must make...

Is your editor applying for sainthood? No, not even. This is the same stuff he struggles with.

I was in Chicago for a company launch. My group leader offered his group a discount to join him. I was at the lobby when I met up with him.

The lady from Atlanta was shocked she had to pay full price for her group. She whined to our leader about the discount. To avoid a scene, he joked about it and quickly gave in.

I was next in line. Would I pay full price or would he offer me the same discount? No dice: I paid full.

Now you're probably surmising: "You're not a Super Saint--but a Super Sap."

I disagree. Because it goes far deeper than just dollars and cents. Allow me to explain...

I sought no favor with my leader. He's well off and doesn't need the money. He was probably testing me to see if I would whine also. If I got anything from the incident, I think I won his respect. And that can stretch a very long way.

How about you?

Have you won people's respect? Do they see you as an Institute of Integrity? Do you have a reputation that's beyond reproach?

Advertise your answers in your daily walk and until we meet again, you have my best wishes.

Present Your Way To The Top: Selling At The Whiteboard - Business - Presentation

What if sales presentations were easier, faster and better without slides? What if you could engage your clients, create meaningful conversations and collaborate together--from the start? Find out the 3 secrets to unlock unstoppable resutls.

Selling at the whiteboard revolutionizes what you know about sales presenting.

It's not just that slides are boring. It's that audiences are fed up with being passive while sales presenters 'spit sand.' There's a lot of discussion about what makes sales presentations really work.

It's not as simple as benefits insales out. If it were all that simple, sales professionals would take the time to truly distinguish a feature from a benefit. But that's another topic for another time. Right now, let's focus on heating up sales conversations at the whiteboard.

If you've ever taken a presentation skills training, you know that it truly is possible to learn new skills. It's the same with whiteboard presentation skills.

Only a few things stand in the way. Belief. Skills. Training.

Let's look into each one and see how to build skills to successfully present your sales story at the whiteboardin minutes not weeks.

"Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning."- Mahatma Gandhi

1. What Do You Believe?Have you been repeatedly telling yourself that you're hopeless at the whiteboard? Do you say it over and over again, with firm conviction?

If soyou'll realize one thing. You're really good at convincing yourself!

Use the same talent of persuasion to believe that you can acquire the skills to simplify complex ideas and engage clients--at a whiteboard.

Funny how that works, right?

2. What Skills Do You Have? When is the last time you picked up a marker? Was it in kindergarten? Was it to draw a picture with your kids? Was it to plan a cool sales training program at the whiteboard?

If it's been a while since you worked on your interactive visual storytelling skills, don't despair. These skills are learnable. In fact, it's easiest to think of it like a language--a visual language.

To speak a language you must learn the alphabet, words, sentence structure and story flow. Just like a foreign language. To speak a visual language for whiteboard presenting, follow the same organization.

Learn visual icons. Discover how to combine words and icons. Organize this symbolic language into 'sentences' so everyone 'gets' what you are describing. Then, organize sentences into visual frameworks. Finally, learn how to talk ad lib, engage with other people and respond on the spot. This kind of fluidity in speech is why whiteboard presenters learn the skill of facilitating interaction.

It's real-time visual storytelling. Just rememberwhen you learned to speak your native language, you had to start at the beginning. A baby learns by experimenting. They rarely start speaking fluid sentences from the get-go. There's a whole lot of trial and error first.

The same is true for learning a visual language. Don't miss the beginning steps. Everything else builds on this foundation.

3. What Training Do You Need?Training in skills is critical--if you're serious about being poised and professional in front of important clients. Standing with a marker in your hand is something you want to learn well, practice, and get personal training to do effectively.

Many of my clients start out swearing that they are 'incapable' of thinking visually, drawing, sketching on the spot, or creating a visual map that guides conversation. They are thrilled when they realize that by following a step-by-step approach, the impossible becomes very do-able.

The most important training is to challenge limiting beliefs, build hands-on skills, and target specific opportunities to whiteboard sales conversations with your customers.

But the key is to start.

Start with uprooting negative self-talk and attitudes that hold you back. Continue to build your skills in a visual language.

Interested in boosting your presentation skills? Get the training you need to push peak performance. Your mood will improve, your skill will soar, and your sales will be your ultimate reward.

Learning Secrets Through A Real Estate Investing Seminar - Other

If you are a real estate investor, beginner or experienced, it is important for you to learn about real estate investing. One of the ways you can learn about real estate investing is through a real estate investing seminar.

When many people first become interested in real estate investing, they think of it in the same way as investing in stocks and bonds.

Just as must as real estate investing is similar to other kinds of investments, it is also very much different from these traditional types of investments. In a real estate investing seminar you will learn about how you can invest in real estate and make a profit.

Before you attend a real estate investing seminar, you should be forewarned that sometimes these seminars are not what you would expect. In many cases, the seminars do not have a lot of funding for speakers.

In addition, real estate seminars do not operate for a profit. Because of this, speakers often are not paid. When you attending a real estate investing seminar you might notice that many of the speakers seem to be attempting to sell some kind of merchandise. Although this might not what you expected, keep in mind that even these seemingly salespeople also have a vast amount of experience that you can learn from.

Even though you might experience these sales pitches at some real estate investing seminars, this certainly doesn't take place at all seminars.

One of the things you will learn at a real estate investing seminar is current market trends. Speakers will tell you everything you need to know about the current real estate market.

In addition to market trends, you will also learn tactics and strategies that will be useful in your real estate investing endeavors.

You might hear of several different kinds of strategies depending on the speaker. Keep in mind that what worked for one investor might not necessarily work for all.

Still, it is good to take notes on what each speaker has to say. This way you get a full picture of strategies you might add to your investing portfolio.

Depending on the purpose of the real estate investing seminar, you might hear any of an assortment of different topics. There is much to the world of real estate investing, far more than can be covered in a few days or even a week.

Some topics at the real estate investing seminar might be covered in detail, while others might only be glossed over with a provision of high level concepts.

When you attend a real estate investing seminar, you should take the opportunity to network with other real estate investors. Unless you work for a real estate investing company, you might not get the chance to meet other investors.

Attending a real estate investing seminar gives you the chance to make contact with real estate investors that might be of some benefit to you in the future. While you might learn a lot during the real estate investing seminar, you can learn much more outside of a seminar type setting. The contacts you make at the seminar will serve as resources in the future.

If you have something that experienced real estate investors can gain from you, they will be more willing to pass on valuable information to you. Just going to the meeting will be stimulating and help give your business a boost.

Learning The Basics At A Forex Seminar - Finance

The Forex seminar is an essential commodity to the novice trader and the experienced professional. Seminars of note are hosted by professionals within the Forex market. Whether these experts are themselves investors or traders, or whether they are analysts or forecasters they all add value to the knowledge of attendees.

In fact, gaining insight from as many groups of people could prove to be the decisive factor in the success of any trader. Analysts can offer well rounded knowledge that is based almost purely on fact whereas traders can give excellent advice based on their own first hand experience of Forex trading.

First time traders may find some of the more technical seminars to be daunting to say the least. Seminars have been established that cater solely to beginners and are presented in such a way that novices will gain a lot of information from every step of the program.

Coversely, a Forex seminar designed for experienced traders will be more likely to discuss impending fundamental news or new patterns that have been discovered during technical analysis. Again, this is all excellent information, but a little premature for the inexperienced Forex trader. Traders should ensure they utilize the right seminars to get real value.

Webinars are the latest addition to the Forex education arena. They are basically seminars hosted on the Internet. These are generally recorded to be played back at will by visitors to the website. While these may not present the usual question and answer sessions they do still impart news, information and resources upon the visitor.

Seminars are also usually broken down further than by technical experience or trading level. There will often be a separate Forex seminar for the technical analysts and further seminars for fundamental analysts and intermarket analysts. Traders often do choose to buck their own trend by visiting seminars they wouldn't usually consider relevant to themselves. This provides them with information that may prove beneficial and that they would not have otherwise accessed.

As well as covering basic topics on Forex trading, seminars also help to identify the important aspects of data. This is true of fundamental and technical seminars. They will also teach traders that the actual result of certain fundamentals on markets are not as important as the perception that the market will take from that particular item. That is, data might be released that will mathematically see the price of the USD increase in the short term, however, if traders see that it will decrease over the long term the market may still predominantly lean towards the falling dollar. As a trader it is imperative to spot this kind of information.

Forex Trader Education, at , provides a valuable resource of information on many aspects of Forex trading. A lot of the content will have been covered in a Forex seminar in the past but the theory receives much more attention on the Forex Trader Education site than it did previously. This attention can help traders to determine how relevant the information really is.

How To Be A Hero With Presentation Skills Training - Business - Presentation

Are you the hero when you present in front of people? Are you consistently chosen as the person to open minds and close deals? If you want to be the hero in your business, these 5 tips show you how.

In presentation skills training, experts explain exactly the difference between being the best and being the hero. This distinction eludes many professionals. But the distinction is critically important--if you want to achieve top results.

Being the best is something we learn in school. Who doesn't want to get top grades, get recognition, and be at the top of the class? Yet, when you leave school and start working, being the best may not be your best bet.

Here's why. Being the best shows that you're smart, determined and know your subject back to front. But it doesn't really show that you know what's important when relating to customers.

Some customers may be put off with a slick, polished performance. They want someone who relates to their real-world problems. They will listen to a sales professional who talks their language--not talks over their heads.

It could be that in your best-intentions effort to be the best, you could be alienating customers.

That's why it's helpful to know which presentation skills you need to be a true hero.

Now, in factthis is a bit of a play on words. And you'll see why when you read these top 5 tips for effective sales communication.

1. Decide What's ImportantIn sales communications, what's truly important? Is it showing that you're smart? Is it showing off all you know about your topic or subject matter expertise?

Not likely. When you have the opportunity to be in front of clients--in face or virtually--only one thing matters. Gaining their attention.

Focus your story, visuals, flow and examples on gaining, keeping and guiding their attention.

If you don't have a clue how to do this, take a presentation skills training. If you have a big pitch coming up and don't have time for a training, wellfollow these core tips, and then take a training.

There simply is no replacement to learning the steps. Once you do, you'll use them time and again, for years to come.

2. Make Your Customer The HeroHard as it may be to give up the spotlight, it is truly in your best interests. Your customer or prospect is the heronot you.

In your planning, preparation and performance, keep this top of mind.

How can you highlight their interests? How can you appeal to their experience? How can you showcase their knowledge and insights?

Make your client the hero. That's your job.

3. Select Your FocusIf you ever took a sales communication training, you know what's next. Select your focus on benefits. Why is this so difficult for most sales professionalseven very experienced ones?

Most likely it's because we spend all day every day reading about features from the marketing department. We talk to our colleagues and they're all bouncy about the new features. If you aren't getting out of the office park or corporate headquarters muchyou're most likely thinking in features.

4. Learn To Make On The Spot DecisionsOften the crucial moments in a sales presentation happen in front of clients. bE ready to make instant choicesand every one follows the same success formula.

It's a one-two punch combining Tip 3 and Tip 4. Focus on customer benefitsdo it on the spot.

If you follow this remedy, expect to see your conversations take off.

5. Keep It SimpleFinally...what is likely the single most important step. Keep your solution simple. Show simple pictures. Speak in simple plain English.

How simple? The simplerthe better.

If you're serious about being a true sales hero, get in-depth presentation skills training. Start today. But for the rest of the dayuse these 5 Tips to get better results in the calls on today's calendar.
