If you have a business that caters to your local market seminars can help your business and even make money.
Heres how. Give free or small charge for a seminar on your subject or area of expertise. Follow these steps:
Develop the seminar using MS PowerPoint is available if not you can use Open Office a free download. First, tell them what you going to cover in the seminar (an overview). Then give them the information and close with a review of what you told them.
Here are some very basic rules on using MS PowerPoint.
Keep the number of lines per slide less than 5 or 6
Keep the information short and concise
NEVER EVER READ THE SLIDE TO YOUR AUDIENCE
Dont use the fancy slide transitions available to you keep it simple
If you use a pointer to point out important sections or words, hold the pointer steady never circle around the subject. Hold it steady.
You can printout a copy of your slides if that is appropriate.
The most important step is PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Practice parts as you drive somewhere during the day. Put time aside to practice using the slides.
Now where to present the seminar hotels are usually the best bet. If you know of a business that has a nice conference room talk to them about using it maybe in the evening. Churches are another idea place. Ive usually found that a hotel offers the best alternative. Shop around for the best price also; see if they can advertise it at least in the hotel.
How to get folks to the seminar is the next problem. Check the local newspaper prices to see if that is possible. There usually a number of smaller papers maybe in a certain local in the area. Fliers maybe an answer depending on your visibility. Radio stations are also a possibility. TV is usually too expensive but worth a check. Some of the local talk shows have pretty good rates it the subject matter matches your seminar subject.
Now the day of the event always arrive early. Set up you equipment and test it thoroughly things quite. Welcome you audience as they arrive. Concentrate of a few of them and during the seminar acknowledge them and speak to them.If you are nervous and most people are even experienced presenters have a few butterflies before the presentation. I have found that slowing down and breathing helps. You can actually run out of breath if youre not careful. Relax and smile use some humor to relax the audience.
